When Mukesh sold dry fruit after first film flopped-went on to become voice and spirit of Raj Kapoor
Singer Mukesh was pushed to become a dry fruit vendor following the miserable flop of his first film. Later he went to become the ‘voice’ and ‘spirit for Raj Kapoor despite not having received any training for classical music.
Very soon he emerged as a legend in playback singing and mostly sang for Raj Kapoor. A team was formed as

Mukesh was considered one of India’s most legendary singers
and the song ‘Sab kuchh seekha humne, na seekhi hoshiyari, sach hai duniyawalo ki hum hain anari’ picturised on Raj Kapoor and Nutan in the film ‘Anari’ turned to be a chart buster song.
When the legendary KL Saigal first heard “Dil Jalta Hai Toh Jalne Do,” he was confused and tried to recall if he sang the number, and asked, “When did he record this one?” For Mukesh, who rose to instant fame with this Pehli Nazar song, there couldn’t have been a bigger compliment than this.
In an era when every aspiring male playback singer followed Saigal, Mukesh was no exception. He was a singer par excellence.
