Ayushmann Khurrana backs out of ‘Border 2’ on creative differences
Ayushmann Khurrana was rumoured to be part of ‘Border 2’ but has reportedly backed out. Shoot for the film is expected to start in October 2024, with further cast details yet to be revealed
The film is slated for release on January 23, 2026
The sequel was announced 27 years after the release of ‘Border’ in 1997.
Just when fans were waiting for an update on the cast of ‘Border 2’, Ayushmann Khurrana, who was rumoured to play a pivotal role in the film, has reportedly backed out as he was ‘unsure’ of his role in the project,
About the same, a source reveals that “Ayushmann was in talks to play a soldier in the sequel. While both Ayushmann and the makers were keen on collaborating, the actor felt unsure of his positioning in an ensemble led by Sunny Deol, a towering star in his own right.”
Reports suggest that Punjabi singer-turned-actor Diljit Dosanjh too, is a part of the film. The source further mentioned that Nothing is confirmed yet. But Diljit has been approached by the makers. It will be a treat to see Diljit and Sunny together on screen, given their strong audience base in north India.”

The Anurag Singh directorial is produced by JP Dutta, Nidhi Dutta and Bhushan Kumar. Earlier he has directed films like ‘Dil Bole Hadippa’, ‘Jatt and Juliet’, ‘Punjab 1984’, and ‘Kesari’.
A source close to the ‘Border 2’ team dropped that the film’s team will start shoot from October 2024, and team behind ‘Border 2’ has been working tirelessly to prepare everything and it’s been a long time in the making as they wanted to do justice to the magnitude of the first film. Now, as the preparations are almost done, the team will bring the film to the sets.
The rest of the cast details are yet to be announced.
