News comes to the fore, that Akriti Chopra co-founder- chief
people officer Zomato has bid adieu to the organisation.

It is learned that she was associated with the company since 2011. She started as a senior manager of finance and operations and later rose to become the chief finance officer, a role taken over by Akshant Goyal in 2020. In her latest role, Chopra was chief people officer at Zomato.

The news of her resignation was confirmed by the
Gurugram-based food- and grocery-delivery platform in a stock exchange filing.

In her email addressed to Zomato chief executive Deepinder Goyal, which was uploaded with the stock exchange filing, Chopra wrote that she was resigning “effective September 27” to pursue other interests.

After Zomato’s acquisition of Blinkit in 2022, several shareholders had raised questions over alleged conflict of interest and poor governance by Zomato since Chopra is the wife of Blinkit founder Albinder Dhindsa.

Meanwhile, as per Zomato CEO Goyal, at the time that Chopra was not privy to discussions or decisions with respect to the transaction at any stage.

According to people in the know, Chopra was on a sabbatical for a few months in 2023.

Chopra, who was earlier with PwC, joined Zomato in November 2011, initially as part of its finance team where she established and scaled business finance functions across all its verticals.

She graduated from The Lady Shri Ram College graduate and is also a qualified chartered accountant ; played an important role in building Zomato’s in-house legal, governance, risk and compliance teams. She has also been instrumental in facilitating several funding rounds for Zomato as a private firm, as well as setting up the company’s presence in international markets, from where it has now pulled out.

She is the fifth Zomato cofounder to leave the company – after Gunjan Patidar in 2023, Mohit Gupta in 2022, Gaurav Gupta in 2021 and Pankaj Chaddah in 2018. Gaurav Gupta and Mohit Gupta had been elevated as cofounders in 2019 and 2020, respectively.

In 2022 and 2023, several other senior executives had made their exit from Zomato. They included Rahul Ganjoo, the then food delivery CEO, and Pradyot Ghate and Siddharth Jhawar – both of whom were vice-presidents.

Ganjoo and Ghate recently returned to Zomato and are working on District — the company’s new standalone app for its going out business.
