Remembring Music Legend Mohd Rafi on his 100th birthday
As the Nation sets up to celebrate Mohd Rafi’s 100th birth anniversary, his son, Shahid Rafi, makes an announcement of a biopic on the legendary singer.
Indisputably, Mohammed Rafi was India’s acclaimed Indian playback singer, and continues to remain an undisputed legend in the world of music. His powerful voice gave life to many timeless hit songs for Bollywood stars like Dev Anand, Shammi Kapoor, Dilip Kumar, Guru Dutt, Dharmendra, Rajesh Khanna, Amitabh Bachchan and Rishi Kapoor.
Rafi Saab departed to the immortal world at the age of 55 in 1980 following an heart attack.
Mohd. Rafi’s repertoire of songs ranged from upbeat tracks to patriotic anthems, soulful ballads to romantic melodies, qawwalis to ghazals, and bhajans. His collaborations with composers like Shankar Jaikishan, S D Burman, and Laxmikant-Pyarelal remain legendary in the music world.
The music wizard was honoured the with the Padma Shri in 1967 for his exceptional contribution to the Indian music industry.
His youngest son, Shahid Rafi, recently in an interview revealed that Rafi was close friends with Dilip Kumar, for whom he sang the memorable “Madhuban Mein Radhika Naache Re” and “Ude Jab Jab Zulfein Teri”, music composer Naushad and lyricist Shakeel Badayuni.
He also revealed that Rafi shared a passionate bond with actor Johnny Walker (remember Sar Jo Tera Chakraye), for whom he sang about 100 songs.
Acknowledged for his generosity, Rafi often served home-cooked meals to fakirs twice a month and frequently shared a meal with them. He was a very charitable person, and he has taken care of many people in terms of their education or to get them married. The word “No” wasn’t in his dictionary..He also went ahead to announce a biopic on his father, which will be directed by Umesh Shukla of OMG: “Oh My God”.fame and the actor portraying Rafi is expected to be announced any time today.
