Meet Namrata Shirodkar-collaborated with big names and quit acting to get married

It’s a fact that many of the actors in the film industry who embarked on their careers as successful models later blossomed into acting roles and shared screen space with some of the biggest stars in the industry.

Although their careers began on a good note, several of them went through series of vicissitudes.

One such actress who won name fame and wealth as a model and rose to emerge as a leading actress in Bollywood but eventually faced a different fate in her career is none other than Namrata Shirodkar.

She was crowned
Miss India in 1993 and represented India in the Miss Universe pageant, where she stood in the sixth place. Her success in modelling and beauty pageants eventually helped her in getting entry in Bollywood. She made her acting debut in 1997 with the film
Mere Do Anmol Ratan in which she shared screen space with Arshad Warsi and Mukul Dev.

Subsequently, she went on to appear in several notable films including Vaastav with Sanjay Dutt, Pyar Kisi Se Hota Hai with Salman Khan, Pukar with Anil Kapoor and Albela with Govinda.

Amidst the late ’90s and early 2000s, she collaborated with some of the biggest stars in the Hindi cinema.

However, notwithstanding her early successes, she went on to face several setbacks. She featured in several films over six years, 16 of which bombed at the box office. In a budget to revitalize her career, she moved to the South Indian film industry.

Unfortunately, her efforts did not bring the success she had hoped for, though she did find something far more meaningful on the sets of a South film – her future husband, Mahesh Babu.

Namrata’s exit from acting began when she met South superstar Mahesh Babu in 2000 on the sets of their film Vamsi. Gradually they began to date and later got married in 2005. The couple are based in Hyderabad and have two children son Gautham and a daughter, Sitara.

Namrata’s last film as an actress was
Pride And Prejudice in 2004. Since then, she distanced from acting to balance family life.
