Bobby’s versatile acting skills need no introduction. His youthful charm and blockbuster films in the late 90s took him to the heights of success but he has seen the highs and lows of Bollywood in the past few years.

The late 90s saw the actor rising to stardom with his back-to-back commercial hits like Gupt, Soldier and Humraaz. Bobby, in these films, showcased his range as an actor, solidifying his position in the entertainment industry.

Regardless the talent, his career faced a decline as the 2000s progressed. The arrival of new faces in the rapidly changing landscape of Hindi cinema led him to be sidelined with only a few releases like Apne, Dostana and Ajnabee credited to his name.

Between 2013 to 2017, his career hit rock bottom as he had no releases during the period.

Although he kept working, Bobby Deol could not regain the stature that he had earned during the 90s.

Just when his star appeal seemed to be fading, the actor made a comeback in 2020. His role in Netflix’s original Class of ’83 introduced a new side to him, proving that he has evolved over the years.

Bobby Deol’s return received a major boost with his role in Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s Animal. Starring alongside Ranbir Kapoor, Bobby took the Internet by storm with his transformation into a formidable villain who had a lasting impact on the film.

Now, the actor is back in the limelight with films like Alpha and Thalapathy 69 in his kitty. This transformation from a romantic hero to an antagonist has resonated with audiences and filmmakers alike, making him one of the most sought-after actors of the current times.

Bobby Deol’s Best Projects
Gupt: Bobby Deol plays Sahil Sinha who is falsely accused of murder in this thriller. Directed by Rajiv Rai, the film was a commercial success and also starred Kajol along with Manisha Koirala in the lead roles. Both Kajol and Bobby surprised viewers with their performances.
*Barsaat: This romantic drama is directed by Rajkumar Santoshi. As Badal, Bobby beautifully portrays a man who falls in love with a woman from a wealthy family. The commercial success established Deol’s position as a leading actor in Bollywood as he made his debut alongside Twinkle Khanna who played his love interest.
*Yamla Pagla Deewana: This comedy-drama directed by Samir Karnik is one of the iconic films to date, primarily for Bobby’s collaboration with his father Dharmendra and brother Sunny Deol. Proving his versatility, Bobby won hearts for his comic timing. In the film, Dharmendra and Bobby portray a crooked father-son pair based in Varanasi. On the other hand, Sunny plays a Canada-based man who discovers that he has a father and brother in India.
*Animal: Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s film emerged as one of the most successful films of 2023, marking Bobby’s solid comeback in Bollywood. His role of a mute antagonist left many impressed with some of them even recreating his viral step from the song Jamal Kudu. Ranbir Kapoor and Rashmika Mandanna also joined the star cast as the lead characters.
*Class Of 83: A hero policeman, played by Bobby Deol, is shunted to a punishment posting as the Dean of the police academy. Amidst his time at the academy, he decides to punish the corrupt bureaucracy and its criminal allies in return by training five lethal assassin policemen.

The film earned a positive response from the actor, solidifying his stature in the industry.
Love Hostel: Set against the backdrop of North India, Love Hostel traces the volatile journey of lovers, being hunted by a ruthless mercenary following the instruction of the area’s MLA, the girl’s grandmother. Released in 2022, the film also starred Vikrant Massey and Sanya Malhotra as the lead pair whereas Bobby took on the role of the antagonist.

The actor’s upcoming films are Hari Hara Veera Mallu: Bobby Deol was roped in for Pawan Kalyan’s Hari Hara Veera Mallu in December 2022. Set in the Mughal Era, the period action-adventure film will see Deol playing Aurangzeb.

Amid repeated delays, Hari Hara Veera Mallu is now eyeing a March release this year.
*Humraaz Sequel: Speculations are rife that Abbas and Mustan may soon return with the sequel to their 2002 romantic thriller Humraaz after 22 years. The film starring Bobby Deol, Akshaye Khanna and Ameesha Patel achieved a cult status throughout the years.
*Alpha: The actor is also gearing up for director Shiv Rawail’s Alpha. The female-centric film is a part of YRF’s spy universe which includes films War, Pathaan and Tiger franchise. Starring Alia Bhatt and Sharvari in lead roles, Alpha is expected to premiere on December 25 this year.
*Thalapathy 69: The film, headlined by Thalapathy Vijay, marks Bobby Deol’s second Tamil film after *Kanguva. He plays the antagonist opposite Vijay’s character, adding to the ensemble cast of Pooja Hegde and Prakash Raj among others. Set to release in October 2025, the multilingual project has Anirudh Ravichander as its composer.
