It was the year 1973. Premiere of the Prakash Mehra produced-directed “Zanjeer”,featuring Amitabh Bachchan, Jaya Bhaduri, Pran, Ajit Bindu. It was an historic moment in Bollywood.
Prakash Mehra, the visionary filmmaker, was one of the most influential directors and producers in Hindi cinema. He changed the course of Bollywood with Zanjeer (1973), a film that introduced the “Angry Young Man” image of Amitabh Bachchan and marked the beginning of the legendary Amitabh-Prakash Mehra partnership. Their collaborations resulted in blockbuster films like Muqaddar Ka Sikandar, Laawaris, and Sharaabi.
Jaya Bachchan, acknowledged for her natural acting and expressive eyes, played a key role. A brilliant actress, she delivered powerful performances in films like Guddi, Abhimaan, Chupke Chupke, and Kora Kagaz. Coming to Prakash Mehra, he had earlier directed Aan Baan, Akari Khat, Haath Ki Safai, Haseena Maan Jayegi, Mela and Samadhi, Muqaddar Ka Faisla. And he has always worked with big stars. Amitabh Bachchan was no doubt his favourite.
