Celebrities like Salman, Shah Rukh, Ranveer, Katrina, Malaika, as well as cricket stars like Rohit and Virat might soon be spotted less frequently at the Mumbai International Airport. This is because the Navi Mumbai Airport is working on a plan to build a separate terminal for celebrities, prominent industrialists, and politicians that could change how they travel.

As determined by the airport operator, this new terminal will be used exclusively by
A-list celebrities. The current plan outlines that Navi Mumbai airport will first inaugurate its commercial terminal.

After this, the next phase of expansion will commence, encompassing the construction of a new terminal designated for celebrities.

The exclusive terminal will cater to not only central and state government officials, governors, chief ministers, deputy chief ministers, defence officials and other officials from the government but also act like a general aviation terminal catering to film personalities and other stars.

The criteria for who will be eligible at the new terminal will be determined at a later stage, he said adding, “The exclusive building that is currently being termed as the VVIP terminal will also be used by the family of the promoters of the airport.”

Currently, the airport’s A-list, comprising those afforded special privileges, includes senior officials from both central and state governments. This encompasses governors, chief ministers, deputy chief ministers, and defence officials, in addition to prominent figures from film, entertainment, and sports.

The Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport in Mumbai lacks a dedicated VVIP terminal at present. Navi Mumbai International Airport, operated by Navi Mumbai International Airport Limited (NMIAL), a joint venture between Adani Airport Holding Limited (AAHL) and the City and Industrial Development Corporation of Maharashtra (CIDCO), is projected to commence commercial operations after May 15.

The Navi Mumbai International Airport, a greenfield airport designed to alleviate traffic congestion at Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA), will have an initial capacity of 20 million passengers per year (PPA) in
The airport plans to accommodate 10–12 million passengers initially, comprising 9 million domestic and 3 million international travellers. Furthermore, Terminal 2, with a capacity of 30 million passengers per year, is scheduled to commence operations by the end of 2028.

According to a senior officer, a ‘Code E’ taxiway will be built to connect the Navi Mumbai International airport’s runway 08L/26R to the VVIP, defence, and general aviation (GA) aprons.

The Code E taxiway will be suitable for large aircraft with a wingspan of 52 to 65 metres and a height of 24 metres, enabling aircraft such as the Boeing 747 and Airbus A380 to land and take off easily.
