Combination of Prakash Mehra,Amitabh and Pran worked wonders for “Zanjeer”.

The Prakash Mehra produced and directorial “Zanjeer”, released in 1973, marked a pivotal moment in the history of Indian cinema, primarily because it introduced the iconic “angry young man” persona through Amitabh Bachchan’s portrayal of Inspector Vijay Khanna. This character, driven by vengeance against corruption and personal tragedy, emerged as a defining role for Bachchan, setting the tone for his subsequent films. The heroine, Mala, is played by Jaya Bhaduri (now Jaya Bachchan), who brings warmth and support to Vijay’s otherwise bleak existence. The villainous role is brilliantly portrayed by Ajit Khan as Teja, a cunning and ruthless smuggler whose confrontation with Vijay forms the crux of the narrative. Ajit’s famous dialogue, “Mona darling”, has become part of Bollywood’s lexicon.
“Zanjeer” not only established Bachchan’s status as a superstar but also reshaped the narrative style of Bollywood action films, emphasizing gritty realism over traditional melodrama.

Pran in Pathan’s role and his dance was another highlight in the movie. This new avatar suited Pran who carried it very well..
Amitabh Bachchan as the ‘#AngryYoungMan ” never looked back after the blockbuster success of the film.
