Reportedly, Hrishikesh Mukherjee tendered his apology to Moushumi Chatterjee for ‘destroying her career’ after she rejected Guddi saying she had ego

Moushumi Chatterjee recalled an instance when filmmaker Hrishikesh Mukherje having tried to jeopardise her career, admitting that he harboured feelings of revenge after she had refused to star in Guddi.

Veteran actress Moushumi Chatterjee and legendary filmmaker Hrishikesh Mukherjee worked together on just one project in their long, illustrious careers — the 1992 TV show Talaash.

In a recent media interaction, Moushumi revealed why she only featured in one project by the late legendary filmmaker, notwithstanding their family ties.
When asked about working with Hrishikesh Mukherjee only in Talaash, Moushumi opened up saying That that it was Hrishikesh’s fault. She wasn’t aware what he thought or noticed.
Revealing the reason behind their limited collaboration, Moushumi shared an instance when she once visited Hrishikesh Mukherjee’s house after he had called her. Because they had family ties, she went to see him. At that time, the filmmaker confessed to having jeopardised her career and admitted to sabotage her career after she had refused one of his earlier projects.

Recalling her meeting with Hrishikesh at his home, Moushumi said, “Hrishikesh couldn’t walk, that was his condition at that time. He called her and said, Indu, I am sorry. I was trying to jeopardise your career.You remember you heard a story of a film and you agreed to do it also, but I had refused to cast you and gave the name of another heroine.
Moushumi then shared why Hrishikesh wanted her to fail. She said, “He told her that she had hurt his ego when she had refused to feature in Guddi.’” Guddi was a 1971 directorial film by Hrishikesh Mukherjee, which marked the debut of Jaya Bachchan in Hindi cinema.

Amidst the conversation, Moushumi also revealed her side of the story and explained why she wasn’t allowed to star in Hrishikesh’s film. “That time around she was the Calcutta girl. The character was required to wear a mini frock and they had the culture of wearing sarees from the age of 13. Her father didn’t allow her to star in the film. He said, ‘She is 10th standard girl and won’t go to Mumbai.’ she was also wasn’t comfortable wearing the mini frock. At that time, how she would have known who is Hrishikesh Mukherjee, she admitted.

Conversing further on her conversation with Hrishikesh, she added, “These are his words, ‘Indu I was so revengeful towards you that this girl refused to work with Hrishikesh Mukherjee, I will destroy her career.’”

Later, Hrishikesh apologised for his mistake and even offered her a role in Talaash amidst the same meppeting. “He told her,to give him a chance to redeem himself. Please do Talaash. The heroine that has been suggested to her doesn’t have that spiritualness that she has
