In the backdrop of Pahalgam attack, the Indian government had imposed digital restrictions on several Pakistani public figures, most of whom had made anti-India remarks.
Reportedly, the social media accounts of Pakistani cricketers Shahid Afridi, Shoaib Akhtar, Basit Ali Rashid Latif and celebrities and news websites from across the border that had been banned during India’s counter-terrorism Operation Sindoor have ironically reemerged on social media.
The YouTube, Instagram and other social media profiles of Pakistani cricketers Shahid Afridi, Shoaib Akhtar, Basit Ali, and Rashid Latif that had been banned by the Indian government after the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack seem to have been unrestricted and open for viewing in India.
As per a news agency quote, government sources reveal that some social media accounts have been reinstated “following a periodic review”.
“Upon the review, it has been observed that some of these platforms which have been reinstated have not spoken anti India language for a while, which was the main reason for blocking them.
However, it is unclear if the restrictions have been lifted from all banned accounts, as there has been no official announcement regarding the lifting of ban by the government.
