Sushmita Sen calls OTT Platforms Netflix, Amazon Prime Video and Hotstar for work
Former Miss Universe and actress Sushmita Sen left with no film assignments, in a recent media interaction shared how she personally reached out to the heads of major OTT platforms, including Netflix and Disney+ Hotstar, to express her desire to stage a comeback to acting.
In a short clip from the interview shared by the media, Sushmita recalled, she called up the heads of Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, and Hotstar saying that her name is Sushmita Sen.She is an actress and used to be one anyway. And, she wants to return to acting. work. That she hasn’t worked for 8 years and it was a long time.
One of her most notable recent performances came in Taali (2023), where she portrayed transgender activist Gauri Sawant. The role brought her widespread praise, though some critics questioned whether a transgender actor should have been cast instead. Sushmita addressed the concern, explaining that she was initially hesitant until she learned that it was Sawant herself who specifically wanted her to play the part.

Reflecting on her eight-year break from acting, Sushmita said that stepping away gave her the perspective she needed. She believes observing and participating in life’s experiences is vital for any performer.
Sushmita made her official comeback in 2020 with her digital debut Aarya, directed by Ram Madhvani. The series earned her acclaim and marked a significant shift in her career. Before Aarya, she had appeared in light-hearted films such as Dulha Mil Gaya and No Problem, along with a cameo in F.A.L.T.U. Her last major release before her hiatus was the 2015 Bengali film Nirbaak.
