The YRF and Aditya Chopra’s Spy Universe is back in action, and Hrithik Roshan’s latest release War 2 is scripting history at the box office.
Co-featuring Jr. NTR, the Ayan Mukerji’s directorial is the
much-anticipated sequel to storm into cinemas with a phenomenal start, earning a massive collection of
Rs 73 crore net in Hindi within just two days of release, while overall collection across languages stand at Rs 108 crore.

The film opened on a high note with Rs 29 crore on Day 1 (Thursday) despite a mid-week debut. On Day 2 (Friday), the Independence Day holiday gave a significant boost, pushing collections to Rs 44 crore, taking the film’s Hindi total to Rs 73 crore. These numbers have already placed War 2 in elite territory it now stands as the 11th biggest Hindi grosser of Hrithik Roshan’s career, surpassing several of his earlier hits.

With War 2 racing to
Rs 73 crore in just two days, it has already crossed the lifetime collections of several other films in Hrithik’s filmography outside the Top 10. That instantly positions it as the 11th biggest Hindi hit of Hrithik’s career and that too at lightning speed.

What makes this feat even more significant is the film’s release timing and competition. War 2 released on August 14, clashing with Rajinikanth’s mass actioner Coolie. While Coolie has performed superbly in South markets and is holding well in Hindi belts,
War 2 has clearly dominated the multiplex circuit, especially in metros like Mumbai, Delhi-NCR, Pune, Bengaluru, and Hyderabad. The Jr. NTR factor has also amplified its appeal in the South, boosting nationwide footfalls.

In total disregard to the negative reviews and its performance on Independence Day, the trade things War 2 is only getting started. With the extended Independence Day weekend still in play, industry projections suggest the film could breach the Rs 125 crore mark in Hindi by Sunday night. That would not only cement its place within Hrithik’s Top 10 but also put it on course to challenge Agneepath (Rs 118.20 crore) and Super 30 (Rs 147.39 crore) in the days ahead.

For Hrithik Roshan, who already boasts some of the biggest blockbusters of the last two decades, War 2 is yet another reaffirmation of his box office supremacy.
