Bollywood has seen many iconic actor-director duos, but few are as legendary as Salman Khan and Sooraj Barjatya. Their journey began with the 1989 cult romance ‘Maine Pyaar Kiya,’ which not only made Salman a household name but also redefined family-centered love stories in Hindi cinema.
Yet, as Sooraj Barjatya candidly revealed in an interview earlier this year his first impression of Salman was far from that of a leading man.
Recalling their initial meeting, Barjatya admitted he was hesitant to cast Salim Khan’s son. He questioned, ‘Why would Salim Saab’s son work with him?” When Salman first walked into his office, the director was underwhelmed.
Maine Pyaar Kiya turned out to be a blockbuster and launched Salman Khan and Bhagyashree into overnight stardom and made Sooraj Barjatya as a director to reckon with.
