Alia Bhatt’s saree-gown look from Gucci at the Cannes Film Festival emerged as highlight of the year.

But Janhvi Kapoor is now taking over this crown with her recent Miu Miu gown-saree look, which looks no less than utterly iconic. Not many may be versed that Gucci and Miu Miu are not the only two international luxury brands that have tried to reimagine the Indian saree, adding a hint of modish notes?

Janhvi Kapoor ruled the red carpet at the Toronto International Film Festival in a customised Miu Miu creation that blurred the line between gown and saree. Crafted on an ivory base with delicate polka-dot accents, the one-shoulder silhouette featured a neat pleated drape that evoked traditional Indian drama, while the cinched waistline brought in sharp structure. Flowing effortlessly with a fluid bottom, this design paid homage to Indian sensibilities in the most subtle yet striking way.

*Alia Bhatt’s Gucci blouse along La Croisette, created a sensation at the 78th Annual Cannes Film Festival in a Gucci ensemble that resembled a dazzling Indian drape. The metallic couture piece was embellished with Swarovski crystals, creating a chainmail-like nude illusion.

Paired with a plunging deep-neck blouse and elevated by a shoulder-attached side train, the look echoed the elegance of a saree while retaining a couture edge. Though the world rushed to call it Gucci’s “first-ever saree,” the brand clarified it was, in fact, a gown.
Still, Alia carried it with such grace that it became a fashionable nod to Indian draping.
