Actress Simple Kapadia made her acting debut with Rajesh Khanna, her brother-in-law in the Shakti Samanta directorial “Anurodh”and later quit acting to dabble into costume designing.

She ventured into acting at the age of 18, with dreams as big as her superstar co-star and sister Dimple Kapadia.

Simple Kapadia is the younger sister of Dimple Kapadia and followed her sister’s footsteps and pursued acting, but it didn’t go well for her.

Simple once admitted that the reason behind their poor chemistry was that she was feeling awkward doing romantic scenes with her ‘jiju’(Rajesh Khanna)
In a conversation she expressed, “It is definitely not a ‘Bobby’ and can never even be compared to it. Just like she guessed she can never be another Dimple. “Actually, she was quite uncomfortable working with him because when you know a person inside out it seems funny seeing him so different in front of a camera.
Regardless a modest start, she had a film career of about 10 years. Simple appeared in supporting roles in films like Lootmaar, Zamaane Ko Dikhana Hai, Jeevan Dhaara, Rehguzar and Dulha Bikta Hai.

Her last appearance on screen was in an item number for the 1987 film Parakh, featuring Madan Puri and Vijayendra.

When acting didn’t bring her the fame she hoped for, Simple turned to costume designing and excelled.
She started by designing the costume for her sister Dimple in the film Insaaf.

Later, she designed clothes for Sunny Deol, Tabu, Amrita Singh, Sridevi and Priyanka Chopra. She won a National Award for Best Costume Designer for Rudaali.

But the actress-turned-designer didn’t enjoy much fame. Simple was diagnosed with cancer in 2006, but she continued to work amidst her tough days. She passed away in 2009 of cancer.
