Veteran cricketer Sunil Gavaskar has emerged as the first sportsperson to get court-backed protection
for his personality and publicity rights. This marks a significant legal landmark in the intersection of sport, celebrity and digital law.
Reportedly, the Delhi High Court on Tuesday, December 23, ordered those accused of misusing Sunil Gavaskar’s name and image to remove all such posts, videos and related content from social media and
e-commerce platforms within 72 hours. The court also ordered that if the individuals fail to comply, the platforms themselves will be required to take down the infringing content.
