Khushboo Sundar on World Cup trophy taken to temple

Actress and politician Khushboo Sundar strongly defended the T20 World Cup trophy taken to a temple by stating it is a matter of national pride and that critics have a
“very small” mindset.
According to the actress-politician, the trophy belongs to the entire nation, not just one religion and remarked that one can thank Allah, Bhagwan, or Jesus for the win, as it is about personal gratitude.
She argued that there is nothing wrong with taking the trophy to a temple or church, stating, adding that she doesn’t think there is anything wrong if you go to a temple or church with the trophy”.

Her reaction comes following the Indian team’s win against New Zealand in the 2026 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup.

She further went on to add amidst her interview that when Sanju Samson steered the team to victory, and prayed by doing the cross sign on his heart. She respects him and bows to him. That reflects his thoughts as a cricketer.”
Further adding that when we lifted the trophy, our captain Surya Kumar Yadav took the soil from the ground and put it on his head. That may not be written in the Constitution, but it reflects our thoughts and emotions that states that as “Indians, India come first.”

She further added, “Anyone can have their own religion. But the trophy that they have won is for India, for his country, for the nation. That is the biggest thing.”

The politician further said, “If people want to argue that someone went to a temple, mosque or church with the trophy, she would say their thinking is very small. The trophy is for India. It is a matter of pride for the country that we have the trophy.”
