The State of Qatar expresses its strong condemnation and denunciation of the brazen Iranian targeting that struck Ras Laffan Industrial City, causing fires that resulted in serious damage to the facility, and considers this aggression a dangerous escalation and a flagrant violation of the state’s sovereignty, as well as a direct threat to its national security and the stability of the region.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs affirms that the State of Qatar, despite distancing itself from this war since its outset and its commitment to avoiding any escalation, notes that the Iranian side persists in targeting it and neighboring countries, pursuing an irresponsible approach that undermines regional security and threatens international peace.
The Ministry emphasizes that the State of Qatar has repeatedly called for the necessity of refraining from targeting civilian facilities and energy infrastructure, including those in the territory of the Islamic Republic of Iran, to preserve the capabilities of the peoples of the region and safeguard international security and peace. However, the Iranian side continues its escalatory policies that are pushing the region toward the abyss and drawing in countries that are not parties to this crisis into the circle of conflict.
The Ministry affirms that this aggression constitutes a breach of UN Security Council Resolution (2817), renewing its call on the Security Council to fulfill its responsibilities in maintaining international peace and security, and to take the necessary measures to halt these serious violations and deter their perpetrators.
The Ministry reiterates its affirmation that the State of Qatar reserves its right to respond, in accordance with Article (51) of the United Nations Charter and the right to self-defense as enshrined in international law, emphasizing that it will not hesitate to take all necessary measures to protect its sovereignty, security, and the safety of its citizens and residents on its territory.
