Reportedly the Tennis GOAT Leander Paes has formally joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on March 31, 2026, in the lead to the West Bengal assembly elections.
The 51-year-old former Olympian and 18-time Grand Slam champion was inducted at the party headquarters in New Delhi in the presence of Union Ministers Kiren Rijiju and Sukanta Majumdar.
Paes expressed a desire to serve the nation, youth, and improve sports infrastructure, citing inspiration from Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s work, specifically the Khelo India movement.
In 2021l Paes had joined the All India Trinamool Congress (TMC) before switching to the BJP.
He is expected to campaign for the BJP in the upcoming West Bengal elections.
