Filmmaker Hansal Mehta confirms that the upcoming Ranveer Singh-led film Pralay is an original story and not an adaptation of José Saramago’s 1995 novel Blindness.
Although early speculation suggested the film might be based on the novel centering on a mysterious epidemic causing sudden blindness Mehta clarified that the script was developed independently.
The film is a post-apocalyptic zombie thriller set in a dystopian landscape. It focuses on survival and the human relationships between survivors as they navigate collapsing systems.
Jai Mehta’s directorial (Hansal Mehta’s son) in his feature debut, the film is expected to have a massive budget of ₹300 crore and will use AI-driven visuals to simulate a destroyed Mumbai.
Production is scheduled to begin in mid-2026, following Ranveer Singh’s work on Don 3.
Reportedly Kalyani Priyadarshan has joined the project in a central role, playing Ranveer Singh’s wife.
