For the first time in seven years, an Iranian supertanker has delivered 2 million barrels of crude to India — under a US sanctions waiver.
At the same time, the US has announced a naval blockade of the Strait of Hormuz.
So on one hand, Washington is restricting Iran’s oil flows — and on the other, it’s allowing shipments to reach India.
It may seem contradictory, but the logic is strategic.
Keeping India within its orbit matters more than strict consistency. Losing India to a Russia–China energy alignment would be a much bigger problem than the optics of making exceptions.
