Baby Tabassum and Dev Anand shared a cherished connection that endured for nearly seventy years. Originating from her time as a child actor in “Aaram released in 1951, their lifelong relationship was defined by his enduring camaraderie and mentorship.
On her show Tabassum Talkies, veteran actress Tabassum shared that the secret mantra Dev Anand gave her for his boundless energy was –
“He doesn’t pay attention to anything that gives him tension.”
Tabassum described this as one of the greatest philosophies of her life, noting that Dev Anand’s relentless positive thinking and refusal to dwell on stress were the primary drivers behind his “evergreen” spirit.
She maintained a close bond with “Dev Sahab” for nearly seven decades, having first worked with him as a child artist in the 1951 film Aaram. Inspired by his outlook, she also made it her life’s goal to keep smiling and spreading happiness.
It is a common misconception that actress Tabu and former child star Baby Tabassum are related. Born as Tabassum Fatima Hashmi, the actress was given her famous screen name by Dev Anand. He discovered her at a birthday party and launched her at age 14 in his 1985 film “Hum Naujawan”
where she played his on-screen daughter.
Dev Anand’s infectious zest for life left a lasting imprint on Tabassum. Following her idol’s guiding light, she devoted her life to a beautiful mission: radiating warmth and spreading joy until the end of her days.
