Twenty-six years ago, on July 1, 2000, Star Plus shed its elitist English-rerun image to become a Hindi general entertainment juggernaut. By debuting the mega-hit quiz show Kaun Banega Crorepati (KBC) and the daily soap Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi, the network rewrote the rules of Indian TV.

This phrase famously describes the cultural renaissance masterminded by then-programming head Sameer Nair and producer Ekta Kapoor. Together, the blockbuster game show and the nightly Balaji Telefilms drama demolished decades of programming snobbery in a single evening.
