Smt. Sunila Pyarelal, wife of legendary music composer Pyarelal Sharma (of the iconic Laxmikant-Pyarelal duo), peacefully passed away at the age of 78 on July 12, 2026. Known affectionately as “Amma,” she was widely remembered for her warmth and grace. Her funeral was held on July 13 at the Santacruz Crematorium in Mumbai.
Legendary Filmmaker and Showman Subhash Ghai, who has known the couple since 1976, shared a heartfelt emotional note. The loss came as a shock to him, as he and his daughter had just visited the music director’s residence in June to greet the couple. Ghai described Sunila as the strongest backbone of Pyarelalji and prayed for strength for Pyarelal to navigate the unbearable loss.
