Will Supriya Sule’s latest move trigger a political cascade?

Supriya Sule’s recent stance on the delimitation bill has sent shockwaves through the INDIA bloc. Opposition leaders now fear her actions could set off a cascade of realignments across the coalition.

Her conditional stance on the Delimitation Bill hinting at potential support if the Centre guarantees a uniform 50% seat increase across all states has triggered tensions within the INDIA bloc. However, Sule has firmly denied any plans to switch to the NDA and maintained that any final decision will be made collectively after discussions within the opposition alliance.

As per Sule if the proposed bill ensures an equal 50% increase in parliamentary seats for every state to maintain federal balance, it would be difficult to oppose.
Following rumors and meetings between her party leaders and Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, Sule categorically dismissed reports of a crossover.
She stressed that her party remains firmly aligned with the opposition and that no unilateral decision on the legislation will be taken.

The Congress party and other regional constituents remain wary. Congress leaders have urged allies like the DMK and NCP (SP) to remain united in opposing the bill.
Reports suggest that the government aims to reintroduce the Constitution Amendment Bill (requiring a two-thirds majority) during the upcoming Monsoon Session of Parliament. The willingness of key regional players to negotiate on a seat-hike formula has altered the parliamentary arithmetic.

The opposition is now navigating delicate internal negotiations to prevent any fracturing of its unified front against the central government.
