Gajendra Chauhan recalls Amitabh’s greatness on ‘Baghban’sets

Veteran actor Gajendra Chauhan recently shared a memorable behind-the-scenes anecdote from the filming of the 2003 hit movie Baghban, shining a light on the professionalism and humility of megastar Amitabh Bachchan. Chauhan, famous for playing Yudhishthir in the iconic television series Mahabharat, recalled his deep hesitation when tasked with shooting a highly confrontational scene. The script required Chauhan to physically strike Bachchan, a prospect that deeply intimidated him out of sheer respect for the senior actor’s towering stature in Indian cinema. Before rolling the cameras, Chauhan approached the superstar to request a rehearsal, knowing how much Bachchan valued thorough preparation. When Chauhan expressed his apprehension about the physical nature of the scene, Bachchan immediately put his co-star’s fears to rest. Sweeping aside any superstar ego, Bachchan looked at Chauhan and firmly instructed him to hit with full intensity. He explained that a simulated or weak gesture would look fake on screen and ruin the emotional impact of the scene. Chauhan noted that this dedication to authentic storytelling, prioritizing the quality of the film over personal comfort, perfectly illustrates why Bachchan is considered a true legend of the industry.
