In a landmark crossover event for Indian cinema, celebrated award-winning actress Parvathy Thiruvothu is making her official voice-acting debut. She is lending her powerful and emotionally rich vocal delivery to Kareena Kapoor Khan’s character, the intense and determined investigator DCP Ajooni Kohli, in the Malayalam dubbed version of the upcoming investigative thriller Daayra.
The National Award-winning filmmaker Meghna Gulzar’s directorial co-featuring Malayalam superstar Prithviraj Sukumaran, “Daayra” explores gritty narratives, systemic grey zones, and complex moral conflicts.
While the original Hindi release preserves Kapoor’s performance in her own voice, the regional Malayalam release ensures the character’s fierce soul resonates authentically via Parvathy’s distinct dramatic sensibility.
Reflecting on the meticulous dubbing process, Parvathy shared that her core aim was never to mimic Kareena’s literal voice. Instead, the focus centered on matching rhythm, intonations, and mouth movements with high precision to preserve the integrity and authenticity of the original performance noting that the idea is to be true to the actor’s performance. She described the rewarding challenge of bridging two cinematic worlds through sensitive storytelling.
