Cinema is looked upon as the biggest mode of entertainment
and only one man could make it
Possible and he was none other than Dadasaheb Phalke. He gave birth to Indian Cinema in 1913 with Raja Harishchandra amid battling odds of varied nature.

The Indian film industry owes its inception to Dadasaheb Phalke since being the pioneer who invented the cinematic language that we now use to tell our stories. He showed film producers how to exhibit their dreams to life on celluloid with
India’s first full-length feature film, Raja Harishchandra and laid the foundation of the industry.

Dadasaheb Phalke’s journey to the entertainment industry could not have been easy but he had an insatiable desire to expand his horizons. He established a printing press, went to London to study cinema. He was a tireless learner and went on to make India’s first silent film.

Dadasabeb Phalke has produced 95 movies and 27 short films in a short span of 19 years at a time when there was limited technological resources! His mythological movies like Mohini Bhasmasur, Satyavan Savitri, Lanka Dahan, Shri Krishna Janma, and Kaliya Mardan were technically sound and sheer marvels of storytelling.

While Cinema has come a long way from the 1930s, yet, nothing matches the perfectionism and beauty of the work of Dadasaheb Phalke.

Phalke was involved in every aspect of filmmaking. He wasn’t only limited to writing and directing alone. He was an art student blessed with a vast knowledge of architecture which helped him create backdrops for his movies.
Besides directing, producing, scripting, and acting, he was even involved in the technical aspects of movie-making. He handled photography, processed films, and even helped in designing costumes.
This was the Pioneer of Indian Cinema Dadasaheb Phalke.

Raja Harishchandra was India’s official entry to the Oscars in 2009.
