Veteran Mani Ratnam Good Word Of Mouth, But Bad Collections

Mani Ratnam directorial ‘Ponniyin Selvan 2’ has met with upbeat expectations, and ultimately failed to live up to its potential. Notwithstanding positive initial responses and positive word-of-mouth reviews, collections saw a steady decrease due to the lack of audience interest.

Infact the film was been faring very well in Tamil cities, while providing only moderate financial returns in Telugu states, with better numbers at multiplexes. Nevertheless, it has benefited from positive word of mouth, its Tamil weekend collections are not as large as the earlier installment.

Reportedly, there has been mixed reviews from critics with some opining that the movie is too slow-paced and similar to a television serial, whereas others praise its portrayal of Adithya Karikalan relative to Ponniyin Selvan.

It may be the feeling of Some people that there is a lack of interest in preserving historical stories amongst youth, which could pose a threat to these collections being kept alive.

OTT platforms have offered an interesting medium for illustrating stories in new and creative ways. Recently, there has been discussion around the Tamil people feeling hurt by the ending of a movie due to too much sympathy being given to one character (Nandini).

All said the collections will definitely increase this week.
