Prolific Singer Hariharan disappointed over deletion of ‘Bharat Humko Jaan Se Pyara Hai’ in Roja

The actor has sung the much
popular ‘Bharat Humko Jaan Se Pyara Hai’ in Roja and shares that he was kept waiting for his song throughout Roja and wondered if it had been cut from the film.

For the unversed Hariharan has given his voice to some of AR Rahman’s most popular melodies and the song that first brought them together was Roja’s “Bharat Humko Jaan Se Pyara Hai”.

He shared with Rajshri Unplugged, he was very disappointed after watching Roja, adding it’s such a good song but comes on the (closing) credits. People are leaving the theatre. He kept telling the people around him to stop and listen. Throughout the film, he kept wondering ‘where is his song? Has it been cut?’”

Further, Hariharan acknowledged that Bharat Humko Jaan Se Pyara Hai “became extremely popular” and garnered “tremendous” fame. It’s a lullaby song and patriotic.

Hariharan is predominantly a ‘ghazal’ singer and has won hearts with some melodious hits in Bollywood.

He is the proud recipient of the Padma Shri Award, and has to his credit 500 Tamil, 200 Hindi songs, and nearly 30 ghazal albums to date. There is hardly any person from the ’90s, who can say that they haven’t heard his songs, Tu Hi Re, Bahon Ke Darmiyan, Roja Jaanemann and Chod Aaye Hum Woh Galiyaan. However, what goes unnoticed behind all this success, are those years of struggling to achieve his first break.

Hariharan did his schooling at Don Bosco High School in Matunga, a Science Graduate and also armed with a degree law from St. Xavier’s College in Mumbai. He picked up his Carnatic music skills from his supertalented parents, who were quite renowned names in the same field. His mother was the famous vocalist, Shrimati Alamelu and his father was late Anantha Subramani. While his mother was his first mentor, he also used to learn Indian classical music from his father.
He however credits his mother for all the success he possesses today.

Hariharan has given many back-to-back hits in Bollywood. However, his common connection with the maestro, A.R. Rahman, cannot be ignored. In fact, Hariharan has sung many songs for him in a long list of movies that include Roja, Minsara Kanavu, Jeans, Indian, Mudhalvan, Taal, Bombay, Rangeela, Indira, Iruvar, Anbe Aaruyire, Kangalal Kaithu Sei, Sivaji, Alaipayuthey, Kannathil Muthamittal, Guru, and many more.
