Akasa Air scales new heights increases routes to expansion Karnataka, Maharashtra, Goa, Kerala
Akasa ailriner was waiting for an opportunity for an expansion in flights on some of its most profitable routes out of the southern states but was struggling to get slots for the same.
Now with Go First having filed for bankruptcy, Akasa Air will aggressively bid for the slots vacated by the former.
Akasa Air currently connects eight cities in central and southern India and flies nearly 63 percent of all its flights in these states.
The newest carrier in Indian aviation, Akasa Air, is owned by
Rakesh Jhunjhunwala,
investor with a Midas touch and often referred to as India’s Warren Buffett.
As per an official from Akasa, plans are afoot to increase flights from Maharashtra, Karnataka, Goa, and Kerala over the next six months to tap into the regional demand in these states, now that an opportunity has arisen.
The airline will aggressively bid for slots at Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport, Pune Airport, both the airports in Goa — Dabolim Airport and Manohar International Airport — Cochin Airport and Thiruvananthapuram Airport in Kerala, and Mangaluru Airport and Bangalore’s Kempegowda Airport in Karnataka.
The official further added that Akasa Air will also look to bid for any slots that may come up for grabs as part of our expansion plans which align with the future plan to expand internationally as well.
