Mumbai Police alerts users on ‘Pink WhatsApp’ scam
Mumbai Police alerts whatsapp users over a growing scam on the popular instant messaging platform, WhatsApp. Scammers are ripping off the platform by spreading a viral hoax message tempting users with fake version of WhatsApp called ‘Pink WhatsApp.’
This deceptive message ensures an enhanced link and exciting new features to lure unsuspecting victims.

Underlined that the claim of a “New Pink Look WhatsApp with extra features” is a complete hoax, designed to compromise users’ mobile devices through malicious software.
The Mumbai Police advised users to remain aware, alert, and attentive to such scams in order to stay safe and secure in the digital world.
Responding to this emerging threat, the Mumbai Police released a public advisory warning citizens about the fraudulent message known as ‘Pink WhatsApp.’ Authorities have urged the public to exercise caution and refrain from clicking on the accompanying link or downloading the associated application.
The police have categorically warns that the link embedded in the message is a phishing attempt. Clicking on the link may expose users to serious risks, including unauthorized access to contact numbers and saved pictures, financial losses, misuse of personal credentials, spam attacks, and even complete loss of control over their mobile devices.
To protect WhatsApp users from falling victim to the Pink WhatsApp scam, the Mumbai Police has issued a set of guidelines:
1. If the fake app has been downloaded, uninstall it immediately by navigating to Settings Apps WhatsApp (pink logo) and selecting uninstall.
2. Exercise caution and avoid clicking on links from unknown sources unless their authenticity has been verified.
3. Install or update apps exclusively from the official Google Play Store or iOS App Store, or from trusted websites.
4. Refrain from forwarding any links or messages without proper authentication or verification.
5. Avoid sharing personal or financial information, such as login credentials, passwords, credit or debit card details, with anyone to prevent misuse.
6. Stay informed and vigilant about cybercriminal activities by regularly checking for the latest news and updates to protect yourself from fraud attempts.
