Gilbert Hill Andheri (E) goes for development on the lines of Dubai’s Burj Khalifa
In a new turn of event, the Maharashtra government proposes to embark on
developments of the 200-feet monolith column of black basalt rock, Gilbert Hill in Andheri (West), to transform it nto a tourist spot on the lines of Dubai’a Burj Khalifa. This news comes from Mangal Prabhat Lodha, guardian minister of Mumbai (suburbs), on Sunday.
Currently,the cliff and the base of the hill is a landslide-prone area, encroached by the slum-dwellers. It is learnt that
Gilbert Hill Identified as a grade II heritage structure was formed from molten lava around 66 million years ago.
Speaking at the inaugural event of Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation’s (BMC) newly constructed swimming pool at Gilbert Hill, Lodha articulated that the Burj Khalifa in Dubai is a popular tourist destination thronged by tourists from around the world. On the similar lines, Gilbert Hill will be developed to a tourist spot.
The swimming pool is named after Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and is the tenth public swimming pool in Mumbai.
