Raj Kapoor and R.K Studios presentation ‘Bobby’ completes 50 years of its release today, 29 September 2023. The film was a big craze among the teenagers.
Not many may be versed that the veteran actor and filmmake had made the Rishi Kapoor Dimple Kapadia starrer merely to save RK Studios from bankruptcy. The film heralded teenage romances in Indian cinema.
The film after its release transformed the providence of RK Films that was struggling to get back on its feet following the colossal debacle of Mera Naam Joker at the box-office.
The popularity of the film was such that special buses called ‘Bobby Bus’ used to ply from villages and towns to theaters in big cities. This bus used to bring people back to the village after they watched the film.
Notedly,Dimple Kapadia’s polka dot dress became famous as ‘Bobby Dress’ and people used to call hero Rishi Kapoor’s motorcycle ‘Bobby Motorcycle’.
The film was the launch pad of Rishi and Dimple, who were ably supported by Prem Chopra, Prem Nath, Pran, Aruna Irani, Durga Khote among others.
