Woman arrested at Mumbai airport with gold worth Rs 1.6 crore in bra
Mumbai International Airport has earned its distinction of emerging as country’s biggest airports for massive gold hauls.
This is despite many persons arrested and jailed.
A recent case that comes to light is of 40-year-old Sahra Mohammed Omar who was arrested by customs officials at the Mumbai airport following her arrival from Nairobi in an Kenya Airways flight KQ 202.
On examination, it was found that the woman was carrying 17 melted 22-karat gold bars in her bra. Additionally, she was also carrying 21 carat gold assorted jewellery with her.
As per Customs sources amidst the interrogation process, the woman confessed to having smuggled the gold. Police officials recorded her arrest and booked her under relevant sections of the Customs Act.
