Much to the contentment of Mumbaikars, the persisting ‘October heat’ that has left the city sweltering over the past three weeks is finally set to wink out as the month draws to a close.

It is learnt that from next week, a drop in night time temperatures is expected to set a cooler picture across the Maharashtrian capital.

October heat a common meteorological occurrence in Mumbai, typically sets in during the first week of the month. Daily temperatures begin to rise, pushing the mercury to levels between 30-35°C.

As per India Meteorological Department (IMD) officials forecast this elevated mercury scenario will persist for the next three to four days. After that, a noticeable drop in temperatures is on the horizon for the metropolis.

As per Sunil Kamble, director of IMD Mumbai, there will be a slight drop in the maximum temperatures from the current 35-36°C to around 33-34°C next week. The minimum temperatures are also expected to dip owing to the changing wind patterns.

Meanwhile, IMD records show that the city’s minimum temperatures have been on a downward trend this week.

From Sunday’s 26°C, the mercury decreased to 25°C on Monday, 24.4°C on Tuesday and 23.4°C during the early hours of Wednesday. The daytime maximums, on the other hand, have remained between 35.7°C to 36.3°C this week.
