Throwback: When Karan Johar instructed room service not to give food to Rani Mukerji amidst KKHH shoot

Rani Mukerji and Kajol were the participants in the latest episode of Karan Johar’s Koffee with Karan. The trio reminisced their memories from Kuch Kuch Hota Hai days. Karan recalled the time when he had instructed the room service at the hotel to not give any food to Rani so she could lose weight, and her mother was in on this scheme.

As per Karan, he wanted Rani to wear a particular skirt and believed that it would only work on her if she lost weight.

Rani also recalled that amidst this time, Karan “snatched food from her hand” and later compensated by saying that it was his “innate goodness” that made him return the plate immediately. Karan recalled, that he had to tell Rani that she had to wear this short skirt in Mauritius and to lose some weight because she has to wear it. She said she will lose some 4-5 kilos. 4-5 kilos were not lost, they were put on. She was like how is she going to wear this short orange skirt,” he recalled and added, he instructed the room service not to give her any food. And Rani’s mom Krishna aunty was in on this. She said, ‘Voh phone karegi, bolo nahi hai khana’ (If she calls, say there is no food).”

Rani recalled an incident when she was having breakfast, “the most important meal of the day”, and Karan came in and told her, that she can’t eat this” and “snatched the plate from her hand.” While discussing all of this, the trio laughed endlessly.

Rani also recalled on a time when Karan “hit” her, but later she explained that it was a joke and he actually “patted her with love.” She said that while shooting one of the scenes with Shah Rukh Khan in Film City, the actor “pinched” her because she was not getting the rhythm right, but again, this was narrated with a laugh.

Rani Mukerji has worked with Karan Johar in Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna, and appeared in a few cameos in his films.
