While movies have mostly dominated the Indian entertainment industry for the longest time, such is not the case anymore.

With the advent of OTT and Indian television continuing to reign supreme, producers now have a diversified portfolio to invest in.

This has equated to handsome budgets for many web series, which have gone on to find success locally as well as on a global scale.

Amongst them, Ajay Devgn starrer Rudra: The Edge of Darkness has turned out to be India’s most expensive OTT web series mounted at a production budget of a whopping Rs 200 crore which is more than that of Shah Rukh Khan’s latest film Dunki and Ranbir Kapoor’s Animal. A major chunk of it is credited to Devgn’s mammoth fees as the actor took home
Rs 125 crore for six episodes almost Rs 21 crore per episode, making him the highest-paid Indian star on OTT right now.

The Disney+ Hotstar psychological crime thriller series is the remake of Idris Elba-headlined British series Luther and also stars Raashii Khanna, Esha Deol, Atul Kulkarni, Ashwini Kalsekar, Tarun Gahlot and Ashish Vidyarthi.

In comparison, Saif Ali Khan starrer Sacred Games was mounted on a production budget of Rs 40 crore for Season 1, although Season 2 saw a significant hike as it was made on a budget of Rs 100 crore. Made in Heaven featuring
Sobbita Dhulipala and Arjun Mathur and Anil Kapoor’s 24 also had an estimated production budget of Rs 100 crore each.

Shahid Kapoor starrer Farzi, Manoj Bajpayee’s The Family Man and Ali Fazal’s Mirzapur had reported production budgets considerably lesser than that of Rudra.

Not just web series, many big-ticket Bollywood movies also don’t hold a candle next to Rudra’s huge production budget. As per reports, Dunki was made on a production budget of Rs 120 crore, Animal Rs 100 crore and Sunny Deol’s Gadar 2 was made on a humble production budget of Rs 60 crore.
