Singer Abhijeet Bhattacharya: recalls Song ‘Wada Raha Sanam’ was meant for legendary singer SP Balasubramaniam
Playback singer Abhijeet Bhattacharya — of 1990s era — has revealed that the song ‘Wada Raha Sanam’ was not intended for him but for legendary singer S P Balasubrahmanyam.

and not for him. The theme for the singing realty show was
‘Abhijeet’s Challenge’.
Contestant Ananya Pal from Kolkata, known for her ‘Mishti Dhoi’ voice rendered the song ‘Waada Raha Sanam’ and ‘Zara Sa Jhoom Loon Main’ both originally rendered by Abhijeet from the movies ‘Khiladi’ and ‘Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge’, respectively.
Abhijeet floored by Ananya’s singing style, shared an interesting insights on the song ‘Wada Raha Sanam’, said that the song ‘Wada Raha Sanam’ wasn’t meant for him.

Film Khiladi was Venus’s debut project in which Akshay Kumar who embarked on his journey as a rockstar in the film.
He further shared the back story around the song, saying, that music-duo Jatin-Lalit had hoped that this song would be featured in their debut film. Balasubrahmanyam and Lata Ji was to perform this song together. But it wasn’t happening due to non-availability of as Lata Ji’s dates.
When things didn’t work out and rehearsals became difficult, it was agreed that Balasubrahmanyam and Alka Yagnik would sing it. And now, what do he do? as it was not in his hands. He was informed that he would dub the song; just as multiple singers are currently brought in for dubbing.
So, he was given the song with Alka Ji. Post that, they would figure things out. However, it remained as it was his song. If it is to be believed had he rendered the song now, it would have sounded a lot better because of Alka Ji’s velvety voice.
He further added that at that time around he didn’t have the season and experience that he has now; what we call ‘crawling’ wasn’t within him, as it is today.
