Filmmaker Rajkumar Santoshi faces 2-year jail sentence in cheque bounce case
The director of super-hit films ‘Gayal’ ‘Gathak’ and ‘Damini’ Rajkumar Santoshi is in big trouble.
A local Court in Gujarat’s Jamnagar, has sentenced the filmmaker two years in jail and fine of Rs 2 crore over bounced cheques. However, the court has granted the filmmaker a 30-day stay to appeal the order.
According to the complainant, Ashok Lal, an industrialist and shipping magnate, he had reportedly loaned Rs.1 crore
to Santoshi for a film project. However, Santoshi gave him 10 cheques of Rs 10 lakh each to repay the amount,
Lal further claimed, that when he went to encash the cheques, they bounced due to a lack of funds.
Adding that he first tried to get in touch with the filmmaker when the cheques bounced. However, all his attempts failed following which he filed a lawsuit under the Negotiable Instruments Act.
His upcoming film is
“Lahore 1947” featuring Sunny Deol and Preity Zinta in the lead roles and produced by Aamir Khan Productions.
