Nitish Kumar Chandrababu Naidu joining INDIA bloc? Says Uddhav Thackeray
Nitish Kumar-Chandrababu joining INDIA bloc? This comes from the mouth of Shiv Sena (UBT) leaders as PM Modi-led Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is restricted on 240 seats, which is well below the majority mark of 272
Lok Sabha elections 2024 results: Shiv Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray, at a public meeting at Kalachowki in Mumbai
On Tuesday, Former Maha CM Uddhav Thackeray spoke about the strong performance of the Opposition INDIA bloc and gave a hint that they could try some political engineering to form the next government at the Centre.
As per Uddhav Thackeray the Congress and other INDIA bloc leaders are talking with NDA partners like JD(U) chief Nitish Kumar and TDP chief Chandrababu Naidu.
Reportedly, the National Democratic Alliance is hovering around 290 seats, which means that they will form the next government for the third consecutive term, but INDIA bloc is probing the possibilities of some negotiation with Nitish Kumar and Chandrababu Naidu.
Uddhav Thackeray further asserted that they need to stake the claim to form the next government at the Centre, and it appear that the BJP-led NDA has numbers to form the next government. Even as speaking on future plans of the Opposition alliance, according to Uddhav Thackeray the top leaders of the INDIA bloc will meet on June 5 and will make a decision.
The developments come as both BJP and INDIA bloc leaders have attempted to reach out to JD(U) and TDP chief.
The INDIA bloc will have 235 seats in the 18th Lok Sabha and it remains to be seen if they are able to break NDA and get the crucial support of JD(U), which won/leading on 12 seats at the moment and TDP which won/leading on 16 seats.
Even if both parties agree to join INDIA bloc, the Opposition alliance will still require support of many smaller parties and independent candidates to think about forming the next government at Centre.
Rahul Gandhi said that they will hold a meeting with their alliance partners on 5 June. These questions will be raised and answered there and that he respects their alliance partners, and won’t make any statements without asking their alliance partners.
After a decade, India will have a credible Opposition thanks to the Congress party’s alliance with regional powerhouses paying off
In perhaps the biggest election upset in India’s recent history, the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) seat count fell short (32) of the 272 majority mark in the 543-seat Lok Sabha, landing at 240 (including leads), and well short of its ambitious target of 400 seats for the NDA.
But the injured party is still set to form the next government with support from its allies in the National Democratic Alliance (NDA), including the Janata Dal (United), or JDU, and the Telugu Desam Party (TDP). The NDA’s tally stood at 291 (including leads).
The opposition Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance (INDIA), meanwhile, has done unexpectedly well, belying just about every exit poll prediction. The alliance is winning in 233 seats (including leads), with the Congress party, which had struggled to cross the 50 mark in the previous two elections, in the vanguard and within kissing distance of the 100 mark.
