Renowned director Neeraj Pandey recalled in a media interaction that Naseeruddin Shah’s Pandey’s Manager rejected his directorial
“A Wednesday” touted as one of the most popular films by the director. Featuring Anupam Kher and Naseeruddin Shah, and this was the director’s debut film. He also shared in his interview, that none were willing to back him when he wanted the two actors in the lead roles. Infact, no one wanted these two apart from the core group.He also shared that even as Shah’s manager at the time rejected the film on the actor’s behalf when Naseer actually read the script himself, he was immediately interested.

Neeraj also shared that there was strong resistance from the producers’ end as they wanted to cast younger actors . Nobody willed to back including UTV that eventually ended up funding the film. They kept on pushing younger names.

Neeraj also recalled the casting process and described it as “funny” and said that he sent the script to Naseeruddin Shah but after a month or so, the actor’s manager told him that Naseer disliked the script.

Later Neeraj received a call from Naseer late night to inform him that he just finished reading the script. Neeraj’s first reaction was the actor’s manager. They met up the next day and that kickstarted the journey.

The film featured Naseeruddin Shah in the role of a nameless vigilante who wants revenge for the many terrorist attacks that have killed countless Indians.
