When Juhi Chawla declined to work with Madhuri Dixit
It’s a well-known fact, that Juhi Chawla and Madhuri Dixit were biggie in the 1990s. Both embarked on their career around the same time, and also tasted success together. As it does happen in the entertainment business, they were often paired together so much so that Juhi once refused a Yash Chopra film featuring due to her “ego problems” with Madhuri.
In an earlier interview Juhi shared, that Madhuri featured in Tezaab and she in Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak in the same year.
All through their careers, they were always compared to each other. It was always like one of them is number one, the other is number two, or the other way. This went on for a long time.
In the early 1990s, both actors were at the top and delivered many hit films.
Juhi Chawla shared that Yash Chopra offered her Dil To Pagal Hai, but the role offered was seen as that of the ‘supporting actor’ which bothered her so she declined the film. Having worked with Yash Chopra in Darr, he wanted to make Dil To Pagal Hai, and he wanted to work with Madhuri Dixit. He suggested that she do the other role. And she was like she should do the other role?’ and she some insecurity and some ego problems so declined.
That was the only one opportunity that we had to work together. The role offered to Juhi was eventually done by Karisma Kapoor, who won National Award for her performance in the film. Dil To Pagal Hai also featured Shah Rukh Khan.
Juhi and Madhuri worked together in 2014’s Gulab Gang. At the time, as per Madhuri she never saw Juhi as her competitor and never ever thought of her as her competitor. She never had any qualms working with anyone.
This is her thinking that they are actors not horses running towards one finish line. It is a creative field and they like certain roles and work with people they like. It is not that she hasn’t worked in two-heroine projects. She worked with Preity Zinta (Yeh Raaste Hain Pyaar Ke), Aishwarya Rai (Devdas) and Karisma Kapoor (Dil To Pagal Hai).
On the work front Juhi Chawla was last seen in Netflix’s Friday Night Plan with Babil Khan.
