Kiran Rao directorial “Laapataa Ladies” releases theatrically in Japan
After making waves in India, Kiran Rao directorial “Laapataa Ladies” heads to Japan. The announcement was made by the film’s director Kiran Rao in her instagram handle. Though date isn’t specified it releases in October 2024.
The film, set in rural India, highlights the story of two brides who part ways in the midst of a train journey that leads to a complicated journey.”
Reportedly, Aamir Khan and Kiran Rao had attended the screening of ‘Laapataa Ladies’ at the Supreme Court.
Amidst the event, Aamir Khan shared his motivation for producing the film, explaining that he wanted to give back to society by providing a platform for new talent. He reflected on his time during the COVID-19 pandemic, when he decided to use his remaining active years to contribute more significantly to the film industry.
Amidst Covid, he had a lot of free time and used to keep thinking and realised that he might have 15 more years of active work left…uske baad zindagi kisne dekhi hai…He wanted to give back to people whatever he has learned in the past many years. The industry, society, and country has given him much. He thought that he could do one film a year as an actor, but as a producer, he can produce many more films.
It is his wish to give platform to new talents and provide a platform for new writers, directors, and everyone involved in the process. This was explained by Aamir amidst an interaction with Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud.
“‘Laapataa Ladies’ is the first project in that sense and he wants to promote this kind of talent and hopefully, can produce four to five films a year and be the shoulder for talent.
Laapataa Ladies, which focuses on gender equality, premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) in September 2023 and received a standing ovation. The film features Ravi Kishan, Nitanshi Goel, Pratibha Ratna, and Sparsh Shrivastav in pivotal roles.
