Renowned actor-filmmaker Rakesh Roshan rings in his 75th birthday on September 6. Rakesh has featured in over 84 films. He was one of the most sought-after heroes of his time and has featured in films Khubsoorat with Rekha and Kaamchor with Jaya Prada, among many other superhits.

However, some of his most notable works include films he directed like Khoon Bhari Maang Karan Arjun and films like Kaho Naa… Pyaar Hai , Koi Mil Gaya, Krrish, Krrish 2 and Krrish 3 featuring his son Hrithik.

In an old interview, Rakesh had rexounted on how Hrithik fulfilled his wishes by doing the kind of work he could not do in his career as an actor. In a recent media interaction he had said that Hrithik has worked really hard and that he failed as an actor. But like any parent, Rakesh Roshan wanted his son to live his dreams and proudly, Hrithik has done the things he (Rakesh) couldn’t do in his life. Hrithik has emerged as a superstar and idolised by many across the world. After all he is son and makes him a proud father. He has had his ups and downs in his career and Rakesh feels it should always happen because that’s how Hrithik will learn from his mistakes.

In the same interaction Rakesh Roshan had also recounted on how Hrithik  started assisting him right after college, letting go an opportunity to learn special effects abroad. The father-son duo’s first collaboration was Shah Rukh Khan and Salman Khan starrer Karan Arjun (1995).

Revealing that he was a strict father to Hrithik, the actor-filmmaker had said, “After graduating from college, Hrithik was selected to learn special effects abroad. But he chose to be here and started working with him on Karan Arjun. As an assistant director, Rakesh was very strict with his son and he made sure that Hrithik would not sit with the him for lunches, dinners and also not travel in his car. Instead, he would travel with the other ADs in taxis, autos or buses.

He further went on to add that they would be having breakfast on the same table at home, but on the set, he was not his son, but just another assistant. He would have to share a room with three other people and have food with them. That’s the way Rakesh thought Hrithik would learn much better.

After Karan Arjun, Hrithik assisted his father on films like Khel and Koyla. Rakesh Roshan launched Hrithik in his directorial Kaho Naa… Pyaar Hai . The film also marked the Bollywood debut of Ameesha Patel. Rakesh is now set to direct the fourth instalment of the Krrish film franchise. The actor-filmmaker will also soon release a documentary titled The Roshans, which will shed light on Roshan, Rakesh Roshan, Rajesh Roshan and Hrithik’s career. Shah Rukh Khan had recently shot for the documentary, and it is expected to release early next year.
