With Anant Chaturdashi falling on 17 and Eid-e-Milad also on the same day, the Muslim community has been kind enough to shift their procession to 18 so that Hindus can do the visarjan peacefully on 17.

This announcement comes from the Maharashtra Congress leader Naseem Khan. He has made a request to the Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde to declare September 18 a holiday for Eid-e-Milad, so that Eid and Anant Chaturdashi ‘can be celebrated with pomp and gaiety’.

Eid-e-Milad is celebrated to mark Prophet Muhammad’s birthday, which is traditionally on September 16, with the processions on September 17. As per s report, since the date this year coincides with Visarjan, the Muslim community met at Khilafat House, Byculla, to take a decision.

However, some community leaders also suggested September 19 or later for the processions as visarjans may continue till September 18 as well.

According to Shuiab Khatib, the trustee of Mumbai’s Jama Masjid, Muslim community members might be unable to display their planned floats if both Eid and Visarjan celebrations happen on the same day. He also cited the possible refusal of police permissions on short notice as a reason. He added, that if the Eid processions are kept on September 19, policemen could have got a day’s break from bandobast work.

Notedly, like last year, this year too, the Muslim community has volunteered to reschedule their religious activities so that the immersion process takes place smoothly. It is a remarkable display of unity and co-existence by the communities. Navi Mumbai has always taken the lead in ensuring that everyone celebrates their festivals in peace and harmony.

Apart from this, in Hyderabad, the Milad-un-Nabi organising committee has agreed to delay celebrations until September 19 to avoid clashing with Visarjan festivities.
