Dimple shares fond memories amidst ‘Bobby’ shoot days.
Recently, Dimple Kapadia recounted some fond memories from her Bobby days with director Raj Kapoor.
Notably, Dimple Kapadia stunned the nation with her innocence and expressive eyes in the titular role in Raj Kapoor’s directorial ‘Bobby’ Her polka dotted blouse turned out to be a new trend here and is still considered as one of the most iconic outfits ever seen in Hindi cinema.
In a recent interview Dimple shared how Raj Kapoor tailored her looks and all her outfits were imported from abroad.
Dimple often shares fond memories of being cast in her debut role. Earlier, talking to FICCI Flo Jaipur Chapter, Dimple recalled how a setback actually set her up for Bobby. She revealed at that time, she was suffering from leprosy and was about 12 years old, had it on her elbow. So this man (a family friend), turned around and said, he will see to it that she gets ostracised from school’. That was the first time she heard that word and also she wasn’t even aware what that meant.” She added, “Raj Kapoor wanted to meet this girl.
Out of this kind of a setback, there was a lot to gain and that’s how she got Bobby.
She went on to add that she remembers reading a newspaper in school which said that Raj Kapoor is looking for a girl for Bobby. Then she went for the test and got rejected because he said ‘she looks much older than Chintu (Rishi Kapoor). Those days she would write in a notebook and used to fill up her notebooks with Ram Ram Ram Ram. She thought How did this happen!
Bobby, hit the theatres in 1973, and marked the debut of Rishi Kapoor. Bobby was Dimple Kapadia’s only film in the 1970s as she left acting after her marriage with Rajesh Khanna. She made a comeback in the 1980s with Ramesh Sippy’s Saagar.
