For the next two hours, he held the crowd spellbound, reaffirming his status as the voice of the youth.
Sonu Nigam’s charm and melodious voice created an electrifying atmosphere. He began his performance with the hit number, Aaj Kal Kyon Mera Waqt Katta Nahi, immediately enthrallinh the audience and he followed it with his iconic songs such as Deewana Main Hoon from his album Deewana, Hans Mat Pagli Pyaar Ho Jayega, and Main Shayar To Nahin. With every number, the crowd’s energy soared, and the singer kept them on their feet.
Notable highlights included his rendition of Agar Kahun Tumsa Haseen from the movie Om Shanti Om and the evergreen hit Dekha Jabse Tumko Bas Dekha Tumko Yaara. The performance was a celebration of timeless music and the enduring appeal of Sonu Nigam.
Maxi Fair, organized annually by XLRI, is not just a cultural extravaganza but also a unique research-based event. Launched in 1979, the fair aims to study consumer behavior through engaging and interactive activities. The event is entirely student-driven, with second-year students leading and first-year students playing supportive roles. From fundraising and branding to managing logistics and hosting celebrity performances, every aspect of the fair is handled by students.
This experiential learning opportunity is an integral part of their curriculum, with points awarded for innovative and effective project execution.
Singer Nikhil D’Souza also captivated the audience on first day, 18 January and Sonu Nigam on the closing night 19 January.
Maxi Fair also featured a range of competitions and activities for all age groups, making it a vibrant community event.
The Maxi Fair hosted several competitions, including fancy dress and dance contests for children, and “Jamshedpur Favorite Family,” Miss and Mr. Jamshedpur, and Masterchef challenges for adults. Winners were rewarded with a variety of prizes such as beauty hampers, washing machines, televisions, and cash awards totaling approximately ₹5 lakh.
Over the two days, the fair saw a footfall of nearly 15,000 people, underscoring its popularity among the city’s residents.
In addition to entertainment, the fair featured 20 food stalls offering a diverse range of cuisines, ensuring there was something for everyone to relish. The vibrant atmosphere and meticulously planned activities made the Maxi Fair a resounding success.
At the heart of Maxi Fair lies its unique approach to research. This year’s event focused on addressing the challenges faced by six multinational companies. Through carefully designed games and activities, data on consumer behaviour was collected from Jamshedpur residents without their explicit knowledge, ensuring unbiased and authentic insights.
The research findings will be compiled into detailed reports and shared with the participating companies. In the past, insights gained from Maxi Fair have led to significant changes in product design and marketing strategies for various global brands. The innovative research methodology and its practical applications highlight the fair’s importance beyond entertainment.
Notwithstanding extensive planning, the massive turnout presented challenges for crowd and traffic management. By 6 PM on Sunday, thousands of people had gathered at the XLRI gates, creating congestion. The police, private security personnel, and XLRI’s own team worked tirelessly to manage the situation. Bouncers were also deployed to ensure safety and order.
To streamline entry and minimize disruptions, separate gates were designated for different groups. Visitors accessed the venue through the Jubilee Park gate, while XLRI staff and students used the Marine Drive gate. Administrative officials entered through the Co-operative College gate. Although there were initial struggles, the efforts of the organizers and security teams ensured the event proceeded smoothly.
The 45th Maxi Fair was a testament to XLRI’s commitment to excellence in education and community engagement. With its blend of research, cultural activities, and entertainment, the fair provided a platform for students to showcase their managerial skills while giving the people of Jamshedpur a memorable experience.
Sonu Nigam’s mesmerizing performance was the perfect finale to this iconic event. His timeless songs and electrifying presence brought joy and energy to the audience, leaving an indelible mark on the hearts of those who attended.
The Maxi Fair continues to be a shining example of innovation, teamwork, and the transformative power of music and research.
