Bengali actress Sreelekha Mitra joined a student rally in Kolkata on July 24, 2026, protesting NEET question paper leaks.
BJP leader Keya Ghosh filed a complaint at Anandapur Police Station, accusing Mitra of holding an offensive and defamatory caricature of Prime Minister Modi.
Kolkata Police officially registered a case under Sections 352, 353(2), and 356(3) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
Mitra clarified on social media that she was not wearing her prescription glasses. She claimed she hurriedly posed with the poster during a chaotic police baton charge without seeing the image.
Defiant against the arrest demands, Mitra stated, “If you wish to arrest me, then arrest me; if you wish to send me to the gallows, then send me to the gallows”.
